LSU Global students provide heartfelt speeches at Convocation Ceremony

Members of LSU's 2018 progression class celebrate with the LSU Global staff at the program's annual Convocation Ceremony.

Mercedes Pinzon, Denise Poveda and Zhou “Leo” Liu each brought tears to the eyes of LSU Global staff members as they discussed their experience at LSU so far.

In speeches at last week’s annual Convocation Ceremony, the three standout students from the program’s most recent progression class credited the LSU Global Family for supporting them and making them feel at home in the United States during their first semesters at the university.

Pinzon and Poveda, coastal environmental science majors from Panama; Liu, an accounting major from China; and the entire newly progressed group has done a tremendous job engaging on campus — both inside and outside the classroom.

“This cohort of progressed LSU Global students has been the most accomplished since the beginning of our partnership,” managing director Todd Ellwein said. “They have not only excelled academically — their average GPA is higher than the LSU freshman average — but they are very involved in student clubs and activities across campus. LSU has truly become their home away from home.

“The LSU Global staff and I look forward to hearing about their many accomplishments as they continue their journey to graduation.”

LSU Global holds a Convocation Ceremony every fall to recognize all its students to have completed their respective program requirements during the past year, as well as to spend an evening celebrating together as an entire LSU Global Family — from the staff and progressing students, to former students, other returning students and the newly arrived cohort.
