Title: Dean of the College of Art + Design

Best Known For: Tsolakis has worked as an architectural consultant for Oke Thomas & Associates in Springfield, Missouri, Bass Pro Shops’ corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, and Atelier for Architecture and Design in Zurich, Switzerland. He was also the project architect for the National University of Athens in Greece.

Alkis P. Tsolakis is the dean of the College of Art + Design at Louisiana State University (LSU). Tsolakis earned his master’s in architecture from the University of Oregon and is a professionally registered architect with Greece’s Ministry of Public Works. He has worked as an architectural consultant around the world and has practiced sculpture for almost 40 years.

Department: Physics & Astronomy

Title: Professor of Physics & Astronomy

Best Known For: Proving Einstein’s theory of relativity and developing ways to trace gravitational waves that would otherwise be untraceable. Her research with Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory, LIGO, helped the 2015 discovery of gravitational waves that were traced to the collision of two black holes nearly 1.3 billion years ago.

Current Projects: Researching noise reduction for interferometric gravitational wave detectors, and searching the data for those gravitational waves.

Gabriela González is a professor of physics and astronomy from Argentina whose research focus is gravitational waves. She served as spokesperson for the LIGO Scientific Collaboration in 2001 – 2017 and collaborates with their organization to develop ultrasensitive technology and data analysis for detecting these waves.

Best Known For: Research regarding production and application of ultrafast pulses of light and their effect on electrons.

Current Projects: Working in the LSU attosecond theory group on the application of the TDSE and Maxwell wave equation to HHG from transparent solids, attonsecond transient absorption, and filamentation of intense mid-infrared laser pulses.

Mette Gaarde is from Denmark and is a professor in the physics & astronomy department at Louisiana State University (LSU). Her research is primarily in atomic, molecular, and optical physics.

Dr. Aly Mousaad Aly is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University (LSU). His research interests focus on experimental wind engineering and structural dynamics and how to implement this knowledge into the infrastructure of different communities.

Ye-Sho Chen is a professor and director of globalization in the E.J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University (LSU). His work with Chinese companies has helped bring Chinese businesses into the United States. His work led to the creation of the China Initiative in 2006 and he continues to work towards building bridges between international markets.

Dr. Warny is an Antarctic geologist originally from Belgium. After she finished her Ph.D., she came to the United States and now works as an associate professor at Louisiana State University (LSU). Her research in Antarctica studying fossilized pollen and spores has enhanced our understanding of the changing climate.
